. . Lighting
The
stock DOT (USA) low beams on the vanagon are terrible. The best
thing
to do is to replace them with the VW H-4 low beam rectangles from
Europe,
or buy the VW South African grill that accepts the cheaper and
plentiful
round H-4 high + low beam and driving lights. Both alternatives
cost
nearly the same. Fog lights and driving lights can appreciably
enhance
visibility and thus safety. An independent power feed directly to the
headlights,
with relays, should be installed for best performance and to avoid
frying
the fragile headlight and ignition switches, through which the full
current
drawn by the lights passes under the stock set up. This can be
done
without having to run new wires.
